Backyard cooking is more on trend than ever, especially now that the days have gotten longer and you can spend most of your time outdoors. So, if you love to cook, eat, and most importantly, entertain, planning a backyard or patio kitchen is essential.

Whether you’re a fan of BBQ, homemade pizza, or if you want to go all out on snacks and cocktails to take happy hour to another level, you can create a backyard kitchen that allows you to indulge in whatever dishes and more you want.

For a functional and beautiful kitchen in the garden it is important to make sure you make the most of the space available trying to combine this need with your needs, style and especially budget.

ASPECTS TO BE ASSESSED

However, the concept of space is relative. It is not necessary to have a large garden, even a large terrace will do. There are, in fact, furniture components of limited or modular dimensions, so it becomes easy to find comfortable solutions.

Another aspect to consider, but this also applies to indoor kitchens, is cost. The materials of the furniture should not only be of good quality, but should also be able to withstand the elements.

KITCHEN ADVANTAGES IN THE GARDEN

Having resolved these two issues, let’s move on to the benefits. We’ve already mentioned the first one, but it’s worth coming back to it: the kitchen is the place of hospitality. Being able to spend time outdoors with family and friends is priceless. And then there are practical advantages. Cooking very strong smelling dishes will no longer be a problem for the rest of the household. Provided, however, that solutions are also adopted for guests who are outdoors. We will see this aspect shortly.

Another element to consider is the summer heat: being able to cook outside avoids overheating the kitchen and, to some extent, the whole house.

ORGANIZE THE ENVIRONMENT

But what does a backyard kitchen need? Definitely a cooking space and a storage space. Even a sink. With regard to the first two aspects, it must be said that these are practical choices.

  • Cooking space: it is good to be able to cook outdoors with others. It is not easy to go back and forth from the inside of the house to the outside.
  • The same goes for storage space: it’s handy to always have everything on hand for your backyard kitchen.
  • The presence of the sink, in addition to obvious practical reasons, introduces another discussion. It is a good idea to have a professional follow up. Arranging pipes, drains and whatnot is not an easy task. Especially if the outdoor kitchen will be equipped with all or many of the appliances found in an indoor kitchen.

This may seem like an obvious suggestion, but experience has shown us that it is not at all: it is a good idea to place cooking and storage areas under protection, such as outdoor tents or a gazebo. Just as it is useful to equip the cooking space with a hood. Yes, even outdoors, so that fumes and smells don’t end up on guests. But how should the space reserved for cooking be? There are different solutions, from modular and compact to masonry. In particular, those in masonry and rustic style are suitable for barbecues and pizza. These kitchens are equipped with a charcoal grill and, if space permits, a stone oven.
