GARDEN: INTRODUCTION

When you have to design a new garden or think about the rearrangement of the “old” one, you often have a thousand doubts about its style. A green space, whether small or large, can be used in various ways, especially if the members of the family have different needs and tastes. In fact, the presence or absence of the vegetable garden, the type of furniture, etc., can constitute essential elements that will fundamentally change the shape of the garden.

But let’s see which styles we can rely on in the various cases and needs.

RUSTIC

Rustic garden: it is characterized by the colors of the flowers and plants, often used in the English style.

Each area is divided in a geometric way by streets that separate the various areas in which to walk and reach the central patio and the house.

The key elements of this garden are the characteristic:

  • rustic furnishings, such as wooden benches wrapped in plants that as they grow will make the appearance even more “worn” and lived in;
  • the “ruined floor” or at least in style with the type of garden;
  • rose tree / arch in intense colors to awaken the senses during walks;
  • Cut flowers and plants that can help to better control pest attacks.

The final advice is to give a sense of curiosity and mystery as the central theme of the garden, to make it even more fascinating.

MEDITERRANEAN

Mediterranean: it is a type of garden created in the Mediterranean areas where plants particularly exposed to the sun grow. Water is the fundamental element to create the atmosphere but also a focal point of the garden, just as a shaded area is necessary to “soften” the garden from the heat. Furthermore, succulent plants such as agave or yucca, or typical Mediterranean plants such as lavender or rosemary should not be missing. Clay pots and some parts of the floor covered with gravel can help make the garden more charming.

The advice to make this type of garden more unique is to create contrasts between sun and shade and enrich it with bright colors.

Typical examples of Mediterranean gardens to be inspired by can be the Jardin Majorelle in Marrakech and the Generalife Gardens in Granada.

MODERNIST

Modernist: creativity, definition and celebration of spaces are the basis for the success of this particular style.

The use of modern materials represents a first step if you want to create a garden of this type. Bulk plants such as hedges serve to create a sense of movement and to emphasize the night lights. Finally, modern furniture is fundamental as well as a water surface, necessary to create daytime reflections and plays of light at night

The advice to make this type of garden unique is to play with lights and shadows, to give life to the garden itself.

JAPANESE

Japanese: we have known and admired them for their shapes and decorative elements placed meticulously and harmoniously.

The fundamental elements that should not be missing from this garden are:

  • Japanese evergreen plants with full and dense shapes, ideal for modeling that take on different colors even during autumn and the coldest months;
  • fountains, ponds and ponds that help to reflect the surfaces around. In small gardens, installation of a tsukubai, a small stone basin, may be useful;
  • symbolic ornaments such as lanterns, stone basins, pagodas where the size of the garden allows it;
  • stone path through the garden leading to the tea room. The path, made with flat and wide stones, can be inserted between the trees or between the bamboo canes.

The Japanese garden connects symbolically and spiritually with the landscape.

PRODUCTIVE

Productive: it may be useful to divide the spaces available for both vegetables and flowers, in order to create a beautiful and at the same time productive garden. In this way, even the smallest garden can be organized and divided into “sectors” to which colors, scents and various qualities can be attributed. From aromatic herbs, to vegetables, passing through fruit trees, every space can become a reason for immense joy.

The key elements to create a functional and beautiful productive garden are:

  • paths that delimit the various sectors and allow easy access to all areas for picking vegetables or taking care of flowers;
  • rustic supports that support both roses and vegetables during growth and act as an ornament both in the vegetable in the garden;
  • plants in a row especially in the garden in order to give a sense of order to the garden;
  • various ornaments such as terracotta vases to embellish the context.

FAMILIAR

Familiar: it is designed in any type of style but suitable for family spaces. It must therefore include play areas for the little ones, spaces where they can sit but, also and above all, an area where everyone can eat together.

The key elements of this garden should be:

  • games for children, such as the swing or the swimming pool or the giant chessboard, etc .;
  • colored materials to give a touch of joy to the environment;
  • an area where you can sit together to have lunch or dinner in the summer where you can add a barbecue if desired;
  • resistant plants that withstand any “mistreatment” of children and pets.

URBAN

Urban gardens: creating it is not always easy as it will be necessary to find space for greenery, relaxation, play and entertainment. This is where creativity must come by inserting key elements such as: designer furniture which is always impressive. Knowing how to play well with lights can create a great effect, especially if your garden lights up an attic in a big city. The use of trees such as lemon, hornbeam or holly oak can be useful in maintaining privacy. Finally, stylistic outdoor wall components in glass or steel purchased from designers can further embellish the appearance of an urban garden.

FORMAL

Formal: it is the classic garden that we often come across when we enter some historic European building. Represents classical Greek and Italian architecture. It is a symmetrical place in the center of which there is often a fountain from which various axes depart that focus the center of the garden itself. The plants, trees and any buildings are geometric with perfect shapes.

It is no coincidence that among the key elements there is, in the first place, precisely the symmetry, which serves to maintain unchanged “the focal point of the garden itself. We also find the statues of gods or mythological creatures. The hedges are often the subject of topiary works, useful to give shape and personality to some areas of the gardens. Finally, there should also be various ornaments such as antique vases for example or natural flooring to make the garden environment more characteristic.
